Pahang - Pahang is
the largest state in Peninsular Malaysia with
an area of 35,960sq km and a coastline of 208km
on the East Coast. The port of Kuantan is the
capital and Pekan some 45km from Kuantan is the
royal town. It has the longest river on the peninsula
known as Sungai Pahang and its highest mountain
is Gunung Tahan. Two-thirds of this huge state
is covered in forest and Pahang's population is
dependent mainly on agriculture and natural resources.
There is extensive palm oil, cocoa and rubber
cultivation. Pahang has a long coastline and fishing
and tourism related activities are prominent.
There are some small-scale manufacturing and cottage
industries, which are important.
It comprises 11 districts
namely, Paya Besar, Pekan, Jerantut, Lipis, Raub,
Maran, Mentakab, Bentong, Temerloh and Rompin.
Kuantan is the state capital of Pahang. Tropical
rainforests dominate the state, which is also
the site for Taman Negara - Malaysia's largest
national forest park.
